DJ Mark One has carved out a reputation as one of Manchester’s most influential figures in hip hop, DJ culture, and music education. His career bridges the worlds of performance, production, remixing, and innovation, making him a unique force in shaping the sound and future of electronic and urban music.

As a producer and collaborator, Mark’s credits include features and remixes with some of the biggest names in global hip hop and R&B — Method Man, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan, 50 Cent, 2 Chains, Young Thug, Tony Mayo, Lloyd Banks, and Pharrell Williams among them. His talents as a DJ, remixer, and official DJ for multi-platinum selling band Texas have taken him onto the world’s biggest stages — from Top of the Pops and the Brit Awards to BBC Radio One, the main stage at Glastonbury, and almost every major festival across Europe. He has also supported international icons such as Madonna at Brixton Academy.

Mark’s versatility behind the decks reflects his deep musical knowledge, moving fluidly between Hip Hop, Funk, Disco, House, Tech House, Jackin House, and Nu Disco with explosive energy. This genre-blending approach has kept him in demand across clubs, festivals, and international tours while shaping his signature sound as both performer and producer.

His journey began at just 13, inspired by a DMC UK Mixing Championship finalist. By the early 1990s, Mark was already dominating the DJ battle scene, winning multiple North West Mixing Championships (1991, 1992, 1993, 1995). From there, he moved seamlessly into radio, co-producing shows across Manchester before bringing his craft to high-profile UK club events and, eventually, venues and festivals worldwide. Along the way, he has shared line-ups with a roll call of industry heavyweights including Grandmaster Flash, Judge Jules, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Goldie, Ninja Tune, Scratch Perverts, and The Freestylers.

Mark’s remix portfolio is equally impressive, having reworked tracks for international superstars such as Jennifer Lopez, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Destiny’s Child. His releases on respected labels like Stoney Boy Music have placed him alongside the likes of StoneBridge, Olav Basoski, Ron Carroll, Todd Terry, and Kathy Brown, while his mixing has also featured on Roger Sanchez’s Release Yourself Show.

Beyond performance, Mark has become a pioneer in DJ education and music technology. He is the curator of the GCSE DJing curriculum for leading UK exam boards (OCR, AQA, Eduqas), and co-created the world’s first accredited graded DJ examinations (London College of Music, Grades 1, 3, and 5) regulated by Ofqual. He lectures on the cultural influence of DJs at the Royal Northern College of Music and continues to champion DJing as both an artform and an academic discipline.

As an entrepreneur and innovator, Mark is co-founder of BPM Rehab, the UK’s leading provider of accredited electronic music interventions for individuals with acquired brain injuries and neurodiverse learners, with a nationwide network of tutors. He also co-founded Brains Powered By Music CIC, delivering accredited post-16 and higher education programmes for students excluded from traditional education pathways. In addition, as Director of the School of Electronic Music Manchester, Mark leads the North West’s number one DJ and music production school, which has trained thousands of students and continues to set the benchmark for accredited electronic music education.

With a career spanning global stages, chart-topping collaborations, pioneering education, and boundary-pushing innovations, DJ Mark One stands as a cultural leader — shaping not only how music is performed and produced, but how it is taught, experienced, and lived.
